Sugar and its ways on European festive tables in anthropological context

Abstract

Sugar is an important cultural product that has played a crucial role in human history as a tool for exercising power, an indicator of social status and a sought-after sweet food. Sugar has significantly changed human eat-ing patterns in time and space.

It was used as a medicine, spice, preserva-tive, food and decoration. This expert study aims to analyse the use of sugar as a decoration from a cultural anthropological point of view.
