Abstract
The article is devoted to the 30 years of anniversary of the fall of the Soviet Union. It tells about the history of the political, economic and social developments in Turkmenistan during the years of Independency.
The article concludes that the Turkmenistani people did not expect that they were granted Independence. The Turkmen society has been suffering under authoritarian rules developed during the last 30 years in Turkmenistan.
Therefore, the older generation look back to the Soviet time, but the young people dream about emigration to the places where the rule of law respected.
