Abstract

Stress cardiomyopathy (SKM) is a clinical syndrome in which cardiac dysfunction develops in response to mental or physical stress. In emergency care, SKM can cause the development of hypotension, arrhythmias or acute heart failure.

It is important to distinguish it from acute coronary syndrome. Despite the reversibility of the disease, SKM is dangerous for the risk of developing serious complications.

The treatment is mostly symptomatic. With the development of routine use of Point-of-Care ultrasonography in emergency medicine, an increase in the incidence of SKM can be expected.

In this article, the authors present three case reports of SKM with different types of heart damage and summarize recommendations for practice.
