The Syllable and its Boundaries in Czech

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2021

Abstract

The first section introduces the concept of the syllable from phonetic and phonological perspectives. The second section concentrates on phonological aspects of syllabification, discussing general theoretical issues concerning the notion of syllabification itself and the principles that govern it.

The third section turns its attention to the phonotactics of Czech and postulates a phonotactics model of Czech syllabification. The fourth section deals with the experimental investigation of syllable boundaries in Czech.

Chapter 16 concludes the book with two syllabification models for Czech, using preferential and categorical syllabication rules.
