The year 2021 took place in the shadow of the ongoing pandemic of the COVID-19. This affected not only the number of patients treated, but also the focus of the vast majority of important publications.
Nevertheless, several important publications can be identified that relate to the current agenda of the field of Intensive Care Medicine. One of the leading ones is the publication of resuscitation guidelines and guidelines for the treatment of sepsis.
In this review article, we bring the readers of the journal a selection of the most important things that have been published this year and should not run away.
