Gypsy Lore Society Annual Meeting and 2021 Conference on Romani Studies

Abstract

Volume published on the occasion of the international Conference on Romani studies organized in September 2021 by the Seminar of Romani Studies at the Department of Central European Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, in cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, for the internation Romani studies association the Gypsy Lore Society. The volume contains three peer-reviewed papers written on the occasion of the conference (covering current topic of the effects of the pandemic on Roman communities world wide and the history of Romani studies research in Czechoslovaki/Czechia), followed by a book of abstracts presenting all conference panels and all individual contributions and name index.

Organized as a multidisciplinary event, the conference contributions covered different aspects of the life, culture, history as well as the current situation of the Roma, including latest developments and effects of the covid-19 pandemic in different Romani communities and Roma-related fields worldwide. The contributions also covered topics related to the reflection of the position of researchers, power hierarchies and imbalancies in the production of the knowledge, the historical absence of the Romani voice in knowledge production.
