Abstract

A review of a book dedicated to an elite soldier from the period of the First Republic, who was an important official of the Ministry of the Interior during the occupation, where he was in charge of supervising internment camps, including Gypsy camps (Lety by Písek). The book is based on a detailed analysis of Letov's diaries and shows how he advocated saving innocent lives, especially children persecuted under Nazism.

It is thus a valuable testimony to the experiences and intentions of one of the important actors and at the same time a testimony to the time (for his work in the ministry he came to court after the war and was taken into custody, he was suspended).
