Abstract
The paper presented the 30 year history of Romani studies at the Charles university and stressed the role of Romani language in the programme. From the early beginning language education has not been just a steady supplement within the program, but it has been the base for most of the subjects taught, as Romani history, ethnology or Romani literature and arts.
The paper also questioned the popularity of the program among Romani students and described their positive role in the education. The paper was also such a kind of tribute to Milena Hübschmannová (1933-2005), who established the program.
