Abstract
The Yaghnobi language is often referred to as Neo-Sogdian and Yaghnobis and some Tajiks claim the people are true descendents of Sogdians. The Yaghnobi language is however rather more archaic than Sogdian is - differences on phonology and morphology point to a fact, that Yaghnobi cannot be derived from the Sogdian language as known from majority of texts.
