Romani language as a "heart" of the Romani studies program at the Charles University

Publication

Abstract

The text analyses the role of Romani language in the Romani studies programme at the Charles University. From the early beginning language education has been the base for most of the subjects taught, as Romani history (oral history recordings have been often used), ethnology (interviews and field researches held in Romani) or Romani literature (if it possible, the books are read in Romani original).

The text also gives succesful examples of teaching Romani students and involving native speakers as lectors in the education.
