The various arts and sciences of the soul, mind and brain are deeply intertwined, whether conceptually, research, diagnostically or therapeutically. Certain mental disorders, such as schizophrenia, anxiety or depression, have their particular artistic manifestations.
Projective psychological tests use visual imagery. Art therapy (drawing and painting), psychogymnastics (movement expression) and music therapy (listening to or performing music) are used both diagnostically and especially therapeutically, and not only as tools for relaxation or abreaction.
The environment of the National Institute of Mental Health is enlivened by outstanding contemporary artworks thanks to many prominent Czech artists. In addition, since September 2018, a series of regular chamber concerts by top musicians of world renown have been launched in the foyer of the Institute, where artists and art lovers, scientists, prominent personalities of Czech medicine and sponsors, as well as patients who are invited guests, meet.
The project "Art - a journey into the soul" is an opportunity for all participants, without distinction, to settle down, meditate, relax, introject and, last but not least, to meet The Art - Journey to the Soul project is funded entirely by private donations and includes the long-term loan of a magnificent Steinway & Sons concert grand piano, which is located in the foyer of the NUDZ.
