The Patient Trustee Institute as a way to improve people's access to justice in involuntary hospitalization

Abstract

The procedure for declaring a person to be admitted to a health institution suffers from many shortcomings. Although they have been pointed out in many ways in the past, they have not yet been satisfactorily remedied.

People in involuntary hospitalization often find themselves in a legal vacuum, without the possibility of effective legal assistance. Access to justice could be improved by the use of a patient trustee, who is already entrusted with various powers in detention proceedings.
