Abstract

The PorTex test diagnostic battery - key literacy skills for primary school pupils - was prepared in an application project at the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic. It offers educational counsellors (psychologists and special education specialists in school counselling workplaces and school counselling facilities) a comprehensive tool for evaluating the reading literacy skills of primary school pupils.

It can be used to assess individual reading difficulties and performance in pupils from different risk groups. The test battery corresponds to international approaches and, at the same time, respects the principles of psychodiagnostics in the Czech Republic.

In addition to tests of reading decoding skills and other aspects of reading technique, it provides diagnostic tools to measure the level of text comprehension. These comprehension tests correspond to developmental perspective (listening comprehension, loud reading comprehension, silent reading comprehension).

The advantage of the test battery is that it provides support for monitoring the key factors in the development of literacy skills, both language requirements (phonological and morphological competencies of students), personality (student self-esteem) and environmental influences (family and teacher's influence). Part B of manual B informs about the standardization.

It describes participants and results in the monitored groups of pupils (in terms of teaching methods and gender), statistical parameters of tests (reliability, validity) and results of standardization research, including grade and age standards for pupil's performance in individual tests.
