Differential diagnosis in dermatology

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové |
2021

Abstract

Differential diagnosis has always been one of the fundamentals of the medical art - its essence is to distinguish a particular disease or condition from others that manifest similar clinical symptoms. However, with the development of medicine, changing classifications and advances in knowledge of the causes of disease, this art is becoming increasingly difficult; and it is all the more challenging to produce a textbook that is intended to be a binding for physicians in the field.

The aim of the authors was to cover the issues of the field in the widest possible scope. The result is a publication that should be an everyday guide for dermatologists just after graduation, a helper when preparing for speciality exams or starting practice, but experienced specialists will also find lessons in it.

However, from the point of view of the target audience, the book goes beyond the field of dermatology itself, and is written so that is can also be easily used by first-line physicians or internists. The book is divided into 13 chapters according to the morphology of skin lesions, localisation, colouring, skin changes, surface characteristics of lesions, etc.

The great strength of the book is more than 70 detailed algorithms and over 250 expertly selected photographs. Clinical entities are described in concise form and supplemented in many cases with diagnostic procedures and basic therapeutic recommendations.
