Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on education. A lot of questions arose on how to provide online education for primary and secondary school pupils and students but also to undergraduates and postgraduates.

The experiences and surveys across universities in Czech Republic show that online education is to a greater extent and without major difficulties possible also for university students. At the same time, however, it turned out that not all university students managed the transition to distance learning.

Among the at-risk groups where the distance learning affect the quality of education, were students with special needs. The paper introduces the results of a survey conducted at Faculty of Education, Charles University which aimed to capture the benefits and limitations of how distance learning was handled by students with special needs.

It also represented the views of academic workers on the specific difficulties and needs of students with special needs during online teaching.
