Abstract

The study focuses on the analysis of different approaches to the education of children of the German national minority. In the first part it describes the specificities of the German nationality in Hungary, where this minority has a strong representation and its own sophisticated education system.

Then, the situation in the Czech Republic is analysed, where the German minority is fragmented throughout the territory, which does not allow for the establishment of specific minority schools and the education of these children is then implemented in mainstream schools. The study also draws attention to the legislative complications that members of minorities in the Czech Republic encounter in schools and to the possibilities they have.

It concludes by discussing whether specific minority schooling is an appropriate educational solution in the context of a changing society and the demands of the 21st century.
