Lecture Action heroes in Denmark? Seniors! for University of the West of Scotland

Publication |
2021

Abstract

Journalist Judita Matyášová has long been interested in the senior community and intergenerational relations. In 2011, she came to Denmark for the first time and was struck by the fact that there is a completely different view of the elderly than in our country.

In the Czech Republic, the prevailing image is of a passive senior who is dependent on the help of those around him or her. In Denmark, on the other hand, the senior is presented as a super-action hero who is important to society.

However, nothing is as black and white as it might seem at first sight. In 2020, Judita Matyášová moved to Denmark to film interviews about the lives of seniors there.

Find out what they can inspire us with and what they could learn from us. A lecture for students of Longevity Studies at Charles University and students in the School of Health and Life Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland
