Based on the architectural, iconographic and inscriptional evidence from Egyptian temples of the Ptolemaic and Roman era, the article investigates modifications and adaptations in the traditional concept of Egyptian kingship (and especially the king's relation to the divine world) against the backdrop of major political changes inside and outside of Egypt. The data indicates both a continuation of established traditions and customs, but likewise a creative redefinition of traditional practices.
