The study focuses on the personality and work of the leading Czech composer Jiří Teml, who this year celebrated a significant life anniversary of 85 years. The names of compositions in his extensive list of works testify to the popularity of themes from the visual, literary and theatrical arts that inspire his work as well as spiritual themes and folklore.
The paper traces the way back to the sources of artistic inspirations in the work of Jiří Teml, brings closer the composer's lifelong relationship with visual art and analyzes the role it plays in his compositional work. It focuses on selected compositions inspired by visual art.
