Inclusion in the School Environments of a Democratic Society

Abstract

In a reflection on the current problems of inclusion in the Czech Republic, the author points out the historical problems of some attitudes of the population towards inclusion. Attention is paid to the principles of democracy leading to the demand for inclusion; in this context, key legislation is also discussed.

Part of the following reflections is devoted to the inclusion of children from socially deprived backgrounds, after which the issues of inclusion of children with giftedness and disabilities are discussed. The last part is devoted to critical discussions and comments on what needs to be given more attention.

The text is illustrated by research findings from the areas discussed.
