Abstract

This article looks at origins of Henry of Isernia, an Italian rhetorician who lived in Bohemia at the end of the 13 th century. Based on epistolary formulae and the treatise De coloribus rhetoricis, Henry's father is identified as the Isernian judge, Mattheus.

This confirms the basic authenticity of the biographical framework of the letters. At the same time, the contribution uses detailed arguments to refute certain conclusions concerning Herny's origins in the older Czech and Italian literature.
