Publication |
2021

Abstract

The article analyzes the thoughts and most important publications of Hana Havelkova, a foremost Czech feminist thinker of the post-socialist period. The authors critically evaluate Havelkova's contributions to international feminist theory, philosophy and sociology, especially in the context of the so-called East West Debates.

Havelkova played and active and pivotal role during these iconic intellectual encounters in the 1990s among feminist scholars from the western and eastern sides of the cold war divide. The authors analyze Havelkova's arguments about the incompatibility of "western" feminist theory and "eastern" women's experience, noting especially the originality of Havelkova's arguments.
