Abstract

The chapter presents a case study of the initial professional studies of teachers in pre-primary and primary education in Germany. The case study analyses the objectives and contents of study programmes designed for the preparation of pedagogues at both levels.

It provides an overview of the types of professional training opportunities for pedagogues in pre-primary and primary education in Germany. It highlights historical contexts, development trends and current challenges.

The chapter is part of the monograph Educating Pre-primary and Primary Teachers Today: Quality Initial Professional Studies for Teachers in Six European Union Countries.
