Abstract
Critical analysis of the communist dictatorship belongs to the central issues of contemporary history. In the Czech Republic, there was a debate on whether the communist regime in Czechoslovakia was based primarily on repression and violence, or whether it included the conviction and approval of various population groups.
The text introduces main positions and the advancement of debates in the Czech Republic in the past 15 years.
