Abstract

The aim of the article was to present, on the basis of a small sample, the linguistic and graphematical form of the handwritten biographies of the members of the renewed Brethren community who died in Berlin and Rixdorf in the 2nd half of the 18th century. The graphematical and linguistic analysis showed that the examined biographies differ relatively strongly from each other in whether they use contemporary Czech cultural language, or whether dialectal and progressive phonetic or morphological forms of spoken language or written language of a lower style predominate in them.

Thus, we see that the scribes who wrote down the biographies reproduced the language of the protagonists quite faithfully.
