Glass in the early middle ages

Abstract

The article pays attention to the archaeological finds of glass artifacts in the early Middle Ages. These are mainly findings glass beads, of which we already have more than 30,000.

They are the subject interdisciplinary research in archeology and technical and natural sciences. Part of it comes from imports, part was on ours territories probably produced by foreign glassmakers, part was produced in workshops for the production of metal jewelry.Beads made by hitherto unknown technologies are also appearing.

Glass containers come mainly from the Frankish Empire. Finds of glass beads and other artifacts from the territory of Slovakia significantly contribute to the discovery of the development glass technologies in Central Europe.
