Abstract

The volume contains the first biography of Wenceslas, duke of Luxembourg and Brabant conceived from the viewpoint of the relationship between France and the Holy roman Empire and of the role played by the duke in the European political projects of the second half of the 14 the century. The monograph also deals with the literary patronage of the duke Wenceslas, especially his relationship with the poet and chronicler Jean Froissart, who wrote for him the romance Meliador and the dit La Prison Amoureuse.

Several chapters are consecrated to the court of Luxembourg-Brabant, to its contacts and interconnections with the courts of kindred rulers and to the court culture.
