Abstract
This chapter presents the concept of "war without restriction" formulated by Qiao Liang a Wang Xiangsui in their n1999 bestseller Chaoxianzhan published by the People's Liberation Army Publishing House. It provides contextualized text based analysis, explores Chinese and western sources of this thinking about warfare, follows the link between the book and developments in Chinese geopolitical thinking, and comments on its relationship to future official policies in security and military affairs.
The chapter also presents enthusiastic reception of the book in China as well as its popularity abroad.
