Recommendations of the Working Group for IBD for the Diagnosis and Drug Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis

Abstract

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the large intestine in varying degrees from the anus to the oral cavity. Its cause is unknown, and most patients therefore require long-term, often life-long drug treatment and permanent monitoring.

The goal of treatment is to suppress symptoms, eliminate inflammatory activity in the intestinal mucosa and normalize the quality of life of the affected individual.
