Faecal microbiota transplantation - secret therapeutic procedure or gut microbiota modulation strategy baseline?

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2021

Abstract

Fecal microbiota transplantation brings highly efficient gut microbiota ecosystem modulation strategy. Recurrent or refractory Clostridioides difficile infection represents the only generally accepted indication of this method where it achieves excellent results.

Perspective indications include ulcerative colitis and irritable bowel syndrome. This method can help to restore intestinal homeostasis in metabolic, psychiatric, neurologic, endocrinologic, autoimmune and other diseases.

Safety issues and appropriate stool donor recruitment still are the main tasks to be resolved. Stool banks represent very innovative trend.
