Radiation therapy in nonmelanomatous skin cancer

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2021

Abstract

Nonmelanomatous skin cancers (NMSC), specifically basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), are the most common malignancies. These malignancies are associated with excellent prognosis except for more advanced squamous cell carcinomas.

The method of choice is surgery, however, in some situations radiotherapy is a good alternative with excellent local control as well as cosmetic results. Radiation therapy (RT) has played an important role in definitive management, as adjuvant treatment after surgery and in palliative setting.

The article presents the possibilities, indications and modern radiotherapy techniques used in skin tumors.
