Abstrakt
Considered to be founded by Nicanor Parra with his poetry collection Poemas y antipoemas (1954), antipoetry caused nothing smaller than a revolution in the literary world of the 20th century Chile (and not only Chile) and continues to have an impact until today. The prefix anti might suggest a total opposition and break up with all the previous poetic schools, but in fact, antipoetry is undoubtedly poetry, and thus is a part of certain "tradition".
Even though one of its main features could be defined as breaking away from prevalent tradition and poetics of the time, it could only succeed in doing so because it was born out of it, not separate from it. I put forward the idea of antipoetry representing Octavio Paz's theory called "the tradition of rupture" (tradición de la ruptura) which suggests that the modern work of literature is always heterogeneous and is not only born as a result of critical age but is always self-critical too.
This theory serves as an inspiration to further explore the problems of literary tradition and its internal breakups.
