Abstract

The pluralis auctoris is an example of how the primary meaning of a grammar category can be transposed into a secondary meaning. In Czech scientific texts, a single author often uses the we-perspective instead of using the first person singular perspective.

However, since the 1990s the Anglo-American scientific standards started spreading into the Czech scientific discourse, which increased the occurrence of the I-perspective in Czech scientific texts considerably. In this paper, we aim to answer the question to what extent the pluralis auctoris is applied in bachelor and master theses written between 2006 and 2021 at two universities in the Czech Republic (Charles University in Prague and Technical University of Liberec).

The specimen contains 500 theses.
