The study attempts to answer some blind spots or controversial moments in the biography of the important 13th Century nobleman Boreš of Rýzmburk. In the 13th Century, Hrabišice estate belonged to the leading aristocratic families of the Czech Kingdom.
Boreš od Rýzmburk shone among the representatives of the family who influenced domestic politics and contributed to the socio-economic transformation of the Czech landscape. Boreš's personality attracted a number of researchers, but nevertheless the last days of the important nobleman's long life remained partly unclear.
With the help of an unnoticed forgotten source, the obituary of the Duchcov Dominicans, which was brought to light almost half a century ago by the historian Ivan Hlaváček, we can accurately reconstructs the date of Boreš's death to the day. The year itself, which represents a small fragment in the knowledge of Boreš's life story, does not go beyond the positivist tradition of domestic historiography.
However, by setting it in a contemporary and temporal contexts, it contributes to a deeper penetration into the fragile web of spatio-temporal correlations of the changing relations between the nobility and the monarch. The study also offers a solution to the almost centuries-old "mystery of the two Borešs", which Jindřich of Heimburk established in his chronicle with the laconic notation "obiit Borso, illustris baro".
