Abstrakt
The Baltic studies have a long tradition at the Czech lands and universities, especially at the Charles University. Already at the end of the 18th century, Josef Dobrovský uses data from Latvian and Lithuanian folklore for an etymological research, František Ladislav Čelakovský then, back in the 1827, releases his translation of Lithuanian folksongs only two years after its original volume by Ludwig Rhesa.
Over more than two centuries, various authors and scholars published articles or more extensive studies about Latvian or Lithuanian mythology and folklore. As a part of a vivid cultural heritage, Baltic folklor is being taught at Charles and Masaryk universities as well as this area of Baltistics involves translations into Czech.
The paper follows the history of Baltic Mythology and Folklore Studies in Czech lands and lists both the first steps in this field and the contemporary development of the respective studies.
