Methodology for the evaluation of adaptation measures mitigating the risks of spruce stand degradation resulting from air pollution deposition and climate change

Publication

Abstract

The methodology aims at the support of forest adaptation management, considering the interests of nature protection. It contains a description of the factors threatening spruce stands and includes measures aimed at increasing the resilience of stands under conditions of climate change.

The computational part of the methodology presents a procedure for deriving the expected mortality rate of spruce stands, and thus allows to evaluate the urgency of the transformation of spruce stands using appropriate management principles. The methodology describes in detail the general principles of adaptation management of spruce stands.

These are further developed as forest management guidelines considering the degree of threat of spruce stands and specific habitat conditions.
