The ongoing pilot project of early detection of diabetic retinopathy and macular edema is focused on the population of adult diabetics in the care of their physicians in order to increase the percentage of performed ophthalmological examinations by expanding diagnostic coverage by introducing examinations through a non-mydriatic fundus camera. Compared to the current practice, the pilot project introduces an innovation in performing the examination of the patient's retina directly by the general practitioner or diabetologist and sending images for central evaluation by an ophthalmologist.
