Environmental Literacy of ISCED 2 Pupils in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany and Austria

Abstract

Environmental literacy represents a measure of environmental knowledge, pro-environmental attitudes, sensitivity and environmentally responsible behaviour. In the present research, the relationship between the dimensions of environmental literacy was analyzed using the author's instrument and its significant determinants were identified.

The results were almost identical in all countries. A moderate positive relationship was found between environmental attitudes, sensitivity and behaviour, in contrast to knowledge.

Analyses showed that gender, year of study and leisure activities, namely being in nature, significantly determined environmental literacy.
