Land and its value : theory and practice

Publication |
2022

Abstract

Land is a natural resource, a factor of production and an object of ownership, deserving a separate analysis for its specifics, particularly fixed amount and immovability. These attributes raise many fundamental issues related to land allocation among conflicting uses and the distribution and costs and benefits connected with its use, i.e. the issues related to allocative efficiency and distributive justice.

The book builds on the knowledge of urban economics and environmental economics with overlaps in urban planning, spatial planning and law. It synthesises these thoughts and provides a comprehensive picture of allocation and distribution issues concerning land as well as of land policies which try to solve them.
