Publication at Second Faculty of Medicine |
2021

Abstract

The topic of the new publication (in Czech and English) prepared in the form of a practical guide "in your pocket" is highly topical. The issue of emergency ultrasonography is accentuated in many medical disciplines.

The Czech publication focused on point-of-care ultrasonography has been missing from our book market so far. It was written by an expert with experience in caring for critically ill patients, who uses this method daily in their practice.

The introductory part is devoted to the explanation of the basic physical principles of ultrasound, the explanation of common terms such as Doppler, M-Mode, B-mode, description of ultrasound probes, screen orientation. The second part is devoted to the differential diagnosis of shock conditions.

Separate chapters are devoted to examination of the chest and lungs with a focus on the diagnosis of pneumothorax and respiratory failure, diagnosis of bleeding and causes of circulatory instability in patients with trauma. Attention is also paid to cardiopulmonary resuscitation and echocardiographic examination of the patient from the perspective of an intensivist.

The text is accompanied by images, diagrams, algorithms and real sonograms. The publication is intended for intensivists, first-line and emergency physicians, imaging department physicians, paramedics, but also medical students.

Medical and postgraduate students from abroad will use the processing in Czech and English. They will also be appreciated by doctors going abroad and doctors preparing their presentations in English.
