Abstract

The book, which is published in the second edition (1st edition in 2012), reflects the progress that has been made over the last 9 years in the field of allergic diseases of childhood. The original team of authors, consisting of leading experts from the Czech and Moravian institutes of pediatric allergology and clinical immunology, was deprived of the founders of pediatric allergology in our country, prof.

MUDr. Václav Špičák, CSc., Who died at the age of 90 in 2019.

The chapters originally prepared by him were updated by doc. MUDr.

Vít Petrů, CSc., And MUDr. Irena Krčmová, Ph.D.

The monograph is divided into two parts - general and special. The general part provides clear information on prevalence, genetics, immunopathology, etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment options, prevention and prognosis of allergic diseases in children.

A separate chapter deals with the role of the nurse in the care of allergy sufferers. We often encounter very young children, recurrent respiratory infections, autoimmune diseases and primary immunodeficiencies, which unfortunately are still not sufficiently thought of, and children are often late for immunological examination and follow-up care.

The next chapters deal with comorbidities and complications of asthma and allergic rhinitis, including gastroesophageal reflux and psychogenic influences. At the end of the book, the reader will find brief biographies of all authors, as well as a list of abbreviations and a detailed index.

The text is richly documented with illustrative pictures, photographs, tables and diagrams. We firmly hope that the updated "Pediatric Allergology" will have its place in the libraries of not only doctors and nurses working in the field of allergology and clinical immunology, but also others.
