On Typicalities of Academic Self-Government

Abstract

The paper deals with selected aspects of the position of public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic an in the Slovak republic. It pays attention to the personal basis and institutional expression of two levels of self-government, the competence of academic bodies, the rights of members of the academic community and the relationship between an institution and the state, as well as the constitutional dimension of the right to (academic) self-government.

Attention is focused only on the characteristics of legislation with the knowledge, that the law regulation content is only one of the factors influencing the state of higher education.
