Kilogram, Kibble balance and how to bring them closer to students

Abstract

The new definition of the SI system of units uses the Kibble balance as the basic device for determining masses. It is a sophisticated device whose accuracy and reproducibility are continually improving.

The design of the Kibble balance is constantly developing. In this article we show its current state, and we describe how to build a simple model, which can bring its principle closer to physics teachers and their students.
