Abstract

The publication deals with phenomena in the Czech landscape on the basis of CORINE Land Cover mapping data. It deals with the changes in land cover and land use in the Czech Republic during the three decades after the Velvet Revolution and introduces the changes in land cover in the socio-economic context.

The main trends of land cover change are focused on changes in settlements, agriculture and forests and are supplemented by several case studies focused on suburbanization, extensification of agriculture in the border area or changes in forests in Šumava and Jeseníky. The interactions between the economic system and nature are investigated using the concept of social metabolism and the method of analysis of material and energy flows in order to describe the extent to which the development of land cover and subsequent material and energy indicators depends on socio-economic indicators. conditions and identify the main processes that are coming.

The analysis follows up on the priority areas of the Strategic Framework of the Czech Republic 2030, which it enriches with a spatial dimension.
