Abstract

The article deals with the role of the Czech writer Alois Jirásek in the political life of Czechoslovakia. The first part of the article focuses on Jirásek's involvement in the Czechoslovak National Democracy, which he represented in the First Republic Senate.

The article then examines Jirásek's second, posthumous political life, when he was interpreted as a symbol by Zdeněk Nejedlý. The article focuses on the contradiction of these two political lives.
