The Fate of the Memberrs of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists Interned in Czechoslovakia during Operation B

Abstract

The presented study explores the fate of the members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Organisation of Ukrainian Nationalists arrested on Czechslovak territory during the so-called Operation B (Banderites). In the inttroduction, the author explains the reasons of the presence of Ukrainian partisans in Czechoslovakia and describes the attitude of the authorities to these individuals.

In the subsequent sections, he examines the changed attitude of the authorities following the liquidation of the Ukrainian underground in Poland in 1947 and the subsequent events in Czechoslovakia. He also describes the handling of the prisoners, the nature of their criminal activities on Czechoslovak territory, investigation and preparation of the trials of Ukrainians and in particular the talks between the Czechoslovak and Polish authorithies about their future.

The final section focuses on the negotiations on the extradition of these persons to Poland, their subsequent extradition to and lives in Poland. The attached tables contain a list of named prisoners, including their affiliation with the Ukrainian underground structures, penalties imposed and other information.
