The study UPre ženy: position and empowerment of women in selected marginalized Roma communities is prepared in connection with the preparation and implementation of the program UPre ženy: Program for the development and increase of employability of women from marginalized Roma communities. The study consists of two parts: quantitative research of empowerment of women from two marginalized Roma communities (Dobšiná, Veľký Krtíš) and qualitative research of the "path" of Roma from a marginalized environment (Dobšiná, Veľký Krtíš, Luník IX in Košice) who succeeded in the labor market.

Part of the quantitative research was the creation of indicators for measuring the position and empowerment of women from marginalized backgrounds, the application of which is transferable to other contexts. The quantitative study maps the initial situation of the position of Roma women in two communities (Dobšiná and Veľký Krtíš), in which the Carpathian Foundation in cooperation with partners implements the UPre ženy program from January 2022 to August 2023. will be used to measure changes in the status and empowerment of women in these communities after the end of the program.

It also brings unique insights into the lives and levels of women's empowerment in these localities. The qualitative study contains important knowledge about the aspects that help women with a lack of resources to enter the labor market, as well as the aspects that are obstacles on the way to work.

It points to the positive impact of work on their lives and the lives of their families. Rarely, it gives a voice to Romani women from marginalized backgrounds.

In their own words, it expresses how social exclusion based on gender, ethnicity and geography is reflected in their lives, the lives of their families and communities. The findings of the qualitative study contributed to the setting up of the strategy and content of the UPreže program: a program for the development and increase of employability of women from marginalized Roma communities.
