Abstract

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University established a Josef Vavroušek Award in "Human Values and Civilization Development Problems" twenty-six years ago. Since then, 407 students presented their work to compete for this award.

This publication is not only a compilation of the works awarded. It is also a reflection of the scientific disciplines within which they belong.

It presents the state of theoretical economics, whose paradigm - economic development - is being criticized for having adverse effects on nature and social relations. It analyses Josef Vavroušek's contribution to the development of a new scientific discipline - public policy - and goes on by pointing out his criticism of the unsustainability of the contemporary value orientation of Euro-American civilization.

It demonstrates the change of values on the way to find who we are, what is our fate, our mission, and our happiness here on Earth.
