Abstract

Cardiac pacemakers, resynchronisation and defibrillation devices are being increasingly used in paediatric and congenital heart disease patients. Implantation of these devices in children <12 years of age and in patients with complex congenital heart defects requires specific expertise.

In accordance with the recommendations of the German Society of Cardiology, training requirements for the implanting physician, prerequisites concern-ing the operating suite and personnel including organisation, as well as training criteria for pacemaker and defibrillator follow-up visits for paediatric and congenital heart disease patients are presented.
