Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the disorders of the locomotor system in wind instrument players in the Czech Republic, to analyse their consequences and related factors. The work has the character of a cross-sectional study with a questionnaire survey, which included 308 players of wind instruments, both amateur and professional.

The results showed an incidence of musculoskeletal disorders in 55% of all musicians in the study. The incidence in professional players was 62%.

A higher risk of disorders was observed in students, women and players playing more hours per week, as well as in players with a previous history of musculoskeletal disorders. The identified disorders were most often located in the wrists/hands, neck, and upper back.

The participants most often solved their problems with help from a physiotherapist and also by practicing various types of physical activity.
